Event Date: May 3, 2012 - 7:30pm
Location: The James Bridges Theater, Melnitz Hall 1409, UCLA
Alma is a small-town teen with a big imagination. Horny and looking for love, she has only her lively imagination and a kindly phone sex operator to ameliorate her frustratingly lonely and chaste life. But Alma’s active fantasy world and even more active libido only seem to get her into trouble. After a titillating yet awkward encounter with school heartthrob Artur, who promises to literally make Alma’s dreams come true, she is instead shunned by her catty classmates and saddled with a particularly unkind nickname. Suddenly a social outcast, Alma is desperate to move out of town and on with her life. If only growing up was ever that simple.
TURN ME ON, DAMMIT! is an offbeat coming-of-age comedy with a deadpan sense of humor, enlivened by its rich sense of fantasy and frank but sweet approach to teen sexuality. With its complicated and perfectly executed tone balancing candid sexual content with a certain earnest awkwardness, TURN ME ON, DAMMIT! is an apt evocation of the particular complexities of teen girlhood.

“The way salty-sweet comedy TURN ME ON, DAMMIT! treats the hormone-addled turmoil of its 15-year-old heroine Alma (Helene Bergsholm) feels something close to revolutionary. I don't want to overburden this mild-mannered 76-minute Norwegian debut, but it's true.” –Alison Willmore, Movieline
“A dry, whimsical and finally sweet film that tries to turn the conventional teenage sex comedy inside out (at least in gender terms), this debut feature from writer-director Jannicke Systad Jacobsen is one of those rare movies that gets better and more complicated the more you think about it.” –Andrew O'Hehir, Salon.com
“The brazen honesty of TURN ME ON, DAMMIT! sets it apart as a refreshingly confident film, giving the teenage sex comedy a much warranted human dimension.” –Daniel Loria, The L Magazine
